.

On 14 October 2010, PrimeTime's Arts and Outreach Group (www.primetime.org.sg) participated in the third My-Strok/PrimeTime activity. The intention of the activities was to create several pieces of community art, which were then auctioned in December 2010. The proceeds went to support the Mother and Child Project (www.motherandchildproject.com). "My-Strok@WIT is a joint project between WIT and Issu.E.Rasers, a non-profit initiative which uses creative mediums to increase people's sensitization and action in social and environmental concerns so that individuals become “issue erasers”.

The idea behind event's title “It’s About You” is based on the versatility of PrimeTime’s members (around 400 members, representing 30 nationalities). In order to celebrate and showcase that, Marija has encouraged members and guests to share a piece of their culture by writing a name of their country/city, doodling their favorite thing that reminds them of it, or simply by writing something in their language.

Marija has decided to use black markers in order to give confidence to those who were worried of their artistic abilities. Hence, once the first doodle was on the canvas, participants were eager to share their creative ideas and be a part of a unique project. The evening was quite successful, with around 80 finished doodles on the canvas!

"With such a great turnout, I was challenged to create a piece of art that represents all the participants. With careful deliberation and study of all the doodles, I have realized that these women, who are from all over the world, have one very important thing in common - they are all united here, in Singapore. Therefore, I have decided to use a symbol that represents both Singapore and women who have signed the canvas. To me, “orchid” is a symbol of Singapore as well as a symbol of femininity. Vibrant colors of it reflect energy and enthusiasm of all the participants that have contributed in making of it. By using water color and acrylic paint, I was able to preserve all the original doodles, while adding a symbol that signifies the importance of “you” and “your growth” in this region", says Marija.
